AUGUSTA, Ga. – Area Publix stores have raised $13,204 for the Children’s Hospital of Georgia through an annual Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in-store fundraiser held May 25-June 14. Funds generated from the campaign will help fund equipment and technology upgrades at Augusta’s only children’s hospital, which cares for about 70,000 children each year.
“As a not-for-profit hospital, we rely on the generosity of donors and supporters like Publix. Every dollar raised helps us provide unique, specialized pediatric care,” said Catherine Stewart, Children’s Miracle Network Development Coordinator at Children’s Hospital of Georgia.
The 154-bed CHOG is the second-largest children’s hospital in the state, providing the highest level of pediatric critical care and neonatal intensive care as well as a wide range of general and complex health care for children, including ECMO.
2013 marks the 22nd year that Publix associates and customers have rallied to help their nearest CMN Hospital through the purchase of $1, $3, and $5 “Miracle Balloons” at the register. Their generous donations help to fund a variety of live-saving treatments, purchase critical medical equipment, and provide needed charitable care, research, and education. With 2012 fundraising factored in, Publix customers have raised more than $26.3 million dollars for 19 Southeastern U.S. hospitals.
“The dedication, commitment, and sheer generosity of Publix customers and associates is so appreciated, and the results will be evident in hospital rooms and hallways throughout the Southeast,” said John Lauck, CMN Hospitals president and CEO. “We are so grateful for our longstanding partnership with Publix, and congratulate everyone involved on an extraordinary fundraising campaign.”
