Kohl’s Cares® grants $22,632 for child asthma awareness and education
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Kohl’s Department Stores, through the Kohl’s Cares® cause merchandise program, will donate $22,632 to Children’s Hospital of Georgia, which will benefit the Kohl’s Cares Asthma Education and Awareness program. The donations were collected from Kohl’s stores located in the Augusta area. Since 2006, Kohl’s has gifted over $172,000 to Children’s Hospital of Georgia.
CHOG and Kohl’s Department Stores will use donated funds to hold a free asthma screening and education event on Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Kohl’s parking lot at 4227 Washington Road in Evans. Kohl’s will present the grant to Children’s Hospital of Georgia at this event.
“Asthma can be deadly, but we can help by teaching families how to live with asthma and the importance of an asthma action plan,” said Jennifer Anderson, Director of Respiratory Care Services at CHOG. “We hope our efforts reduce the number of hospitalizations, emergency department visits and days missed from school, but more importantly, we want to save lives.”
About 227,000 children in Georgia are living with asthma, a chronic lung disease that causes wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness and coughing. Common triggers include smoke, mold, pet dander and air pollution. Although there is no cure, most people can control symptoms and prevent asthma attacks by avoiding triggers and correctly using prescribed medicine.
Kohl’s commitment to Children’s Hospital of Georgia is made possible through the Kohl’s Cares® cause merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells $5 books and plush toys where 100 percent of net profit benefits children’s health and education programs nationwide, including hospital partnerships like this one. Kohl’s has raised more than $231 million dollars through this merchandise program. In addition to the merchandise program, Kohl’s Cares® features the Kohl’s Cares® Scholarship Program, which last year recognized more than 2,300 young volunteers with more than $400,000 in scholarships and prizes. Through Kohl’s Associates in Action volunteer program, more than 669,000 associates have donated more than 2.2 million hours of their time since 2001, and Kohl’s has donated more than $63 million to youth-focused nonprofit organizations. Kohl’s also offers fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations. For more information, visit www.Kohls.com/Cares.
