Medical center earns gold award for donor outreach

Georgia Regents Medical Center  is only Georgia hospital to earn this recognition

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Georgia Regents Medical Center is the only hospital in Georgia to receive a gold award for its organ, eye, and tissue donation and registration efforts through the Workplace Partnership for Life Hospital Campaign. LifeLink® of Georgia, the federally designated organ and tissue procurement organization for the state of Georgia and two counties in South Carolina, Aiken and Edgefield, presented the award to the hospital in December.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, the campaign brings together national partners, local and regional organ, eye and tissue donation organizations, and hospitals throughout the nation to educate employees and communities on the importance of donation. The 322 hospitals, who earned gold, silver, and bronze level recognition, earned points for awareness and registry activities held between September 2012 and May 2013.

“Transplantation gives hope to thousands of people with organ failure and provides many others with active and renewed lives. It can be difficult to talk to a family about donation when they’ve just lost a loved one; but it can also provide hope when that family gets an opportunity for their loved one’s memory to live on through the gift of donation to another,” said Teri Perry, Vice President of Patient Care Services and Interim Chief Nursing Officer at Georgia Regents Medical Center.

“Georgia Regents Medical Center is a great champion for organ, eye, and tissue donation. We are proud of this accomplishment and applaud Georgia Regents for making a difference in the lives of the more than 4,000 Georgians that are currently waiting for transplant,” says Tracie Amrhein, Hospital Development Liaison with LifeLink of Georgia, “It is because of these professionals’ unyielding dedication to saving lives that we applaud their achievements.”
