All clear: The situation at Paine College has been resolved and a suspect is in custody. Operations in the medical center and on both campuses may resume as normal.

The search for the suspect in this afternoon’s shooting at Paine College is ongoing. Officers are looking for a black male, approximately 5’ 8”, 160 lbs, wearing black jeans, a white t-shirt, a red hat, and shoes with green and white laces. Buildings on both campuses and in the health system are on lockdown and you should continue to stay in place.

GR Medical Center employees who are reporting for shift change, must have their badge to enter the facility.

As you may be aware, there has been a shooting at Paine College. In response to this event and in the best interest of your safety and the safety of our patients, all the entrances to the Medical Center have been placed on badge access only with officers present at all entrances. Please be vigilant of suspicious behavior, and notify Security at 706-721-4787 if you have any concerns or notice anything out of the ordinary.

We have been advised of a shooting at Paine College this afternoon and law enforcement is currently looking for the suspect. Pending location of the shooter, Public Safety is placing officers at campus and hospital entrances. We will keep you advised as the situation develops. Please remain in place until further notice.
